WHAT IS Grief

Grief  is an expression of our connection to Mother Nature.  Like earthquakes, forest fires, and tsunami waves, if you try to hold her down, or hold her in unexpressed, or deny her movement she will come back with a force that reverberates through your being.  If you choose to remain unaware of her rumblings, or make light of her depth, she will have her way with you.

 

As I looked at grief’s intensity in the months following my husband’s death — she smiled at me mysteriously. It was through observing children that I was shown how to deal with grief’s tumult. I noticed emotions run through children like a raging river, and then seconds later a double rainbow appears on their smiling faces.

Somehow that gave me permission to embrace grief in every moment without letting anyone’s opinion interrupt my journey.
I was so raw it was easy for me to yield to whatever my body and spirit needed Within a year I was the healthiest I had been in fifteen years. My naturopathic doctor in performing my annual wellness visit was delighted. He knew my health history and in comparing it to my current diagnostics, he said, “Wow you have the health of a 25 year old. Whatever you have been doing, keep doing it.” At fifty something that felt good. He was surprised when I confided in him the grief and trauma which had occurred in my life. Upon explaining the childlike perspective that I had adopted to heal  emotionally, he understood. Like me, he had seen the power of healing through authentic expression.
